Make New Friends

Courtesy of landismom, I've been introduced to Good Reads, a social book rating service. So if Library Thing isn't taking up all your online book cataloguing-and-commenting energy, check this one out. I've never delved into myspace or facebook; I've been fascinated to see how easily the site enables me to, say, use my gmail address book to invite people to be friends (which I did without really realizing I was doing it--Politica tells me she got an invite and I didn't realize she was in my gmail address book), and then how some friends-of-friends are now contacting me. This commentary marks me as hopelessly behind the times, I realize.

I'm not sure how much I'll use it, and not yet sure how I think it compares to Library Thing (which is set up to be more of a catalogue, not a rating service). But worth checking out, I think.

Oooo, you could have fun with us on Facebook. I'm just saying...

Seriously, though, I'll be interested to hear what anyone has to say on Good Reads v. Library Thing.

Oh, that explains the invite!

I second Phantom's comments re: Facebook. Join us!

I doubt I'll be adding anything to goodreads because I don't really review anything (and if I did, I'd do it on LT where all my stuff is anyway!), but I accepted all these friend invites so I could keep up with what you all have to say. All you wordy people. :)

I'm in the same position as Julie. I don't I have time to post stuff to GoodReads but I accept friend invites because I do like to see what other people are reading ....

I confess, my major interest in goodreads is in the prurient window into other people's shelves. I haven't paid for the librarything premium service, and I got up to 200 books (the annual limit on the free service) pretty quickly.

But I'm not on facebook, either.

I don't think I'll ever make good use of LibraryThing, much as I love the idea. GoodReads looks like fun, thanks for inviting me!

How do you people manage it? I couldn't possibly spend any more of my time and energy doing things online unless I quit my job and studiously shirked all my other responsibilities. (now there's an idea)
