Wishes for Sweetness

"It looks like a bagel," Curious Girl exclaimed this morning when I showed her how the challah had turned out while she was sleeping. She helped with the dough last night, but had missed the baking stages. A bagel, a challah. Rosh Hashanah, the first crisp days of fall, the beginning of Ramadan. There is much to enjoy this time of year.

We have friends coming over for dinner tonight. We're probably the only house preparing a Rosh Hashanah dinner with Debbie Friedman's Hanukah songs as the soundtrack: CG's newest game is dancing to Hanukkah songs (although she just switched the CD to a shabbat songs soundtrack and is twirling around to "Shabbat is Here"). It's all festive, even if not quite traditional. Whether it's a holiday or a weekday at your house, 5768 or 2007, may sweetness abound. A sweet new year to those beginning 5768, and a good fall for all of us.

L'shana tovah!

It is also apparently the new milennium (year 2000) in Ethiopia, which uses the julian calendar.

I've always loved the way the round Rosh Hashanah challah looks. Yours is particularly pretty (and tasty too, I'm sure)
