151 to 45

See Mass Equality's site for the latest news, but let's all celebrate the Massachusetts legislature for voting down the proposed referendum on same-sex marriage. Marriage equality lives on in Massachusetts--and that's been an inspiration for growing rights in other parts of the country. Neighboring states give some recognition to same-sex married Massachusetts couples, and a growing number of states have moved to civil unions. May all our families prosper!

Cheering! For this, my legislators deserve real pen-to-paper thank-you notes.

It is a victory, expecially the margin, and yet I find it depressing that the victories we're celebrating these days are generally a lack of backward progress.

Today seems to be my day to comment right after Phantom.

Hope Colorado gets a clue! We did finally get same sex insurance benefits. Progress is slow. People are slow too.

Oh, bless MassEquality! They've worked so hard for such a long time. And how fabulous is Deval Patrick? It's amazing to me that he and DiMasi and Murray devoted themselves so tirelessly over the last few days especially- there are definitely a lot of thank-yous to be doled out. -Kate-

Woo-hoo! Such good news! As Phantom said, we need to thank our legislators, and kudos to Gov. Deval Patrick who put some pressure on, too.

And the vote by the legislature completely undercuts one of the main talking points of opponents -- that marriage equality was something forced on MA by unelected judges. An argument that I thought was ridiculous, but that carried surprising weight for many people.
