How to Measure

Baby Blue today offers instruction on how to tell the difference between so so big, big, and little big.

From our breakfast table, CG had a new approach to measuring liquid (not) drunk. She had maybe two sips of her minty chocolate soymilk at breakfast, and when she announced she was full, Politica asked her how much she had drunk. "A hummingbird amount or a cat amount?" I asked, when she just looked perplexed, clearly trying to find an answer that would suggest to Politica that much had been drunk when in fact, it hadn't. "A kitty amount!" she said enthusiastically, and hopped down. I nerdily interjected that hummingbirds actually eat quite a lot relative to their own weight, and she said, "Well, cats don't eat very much. So a kitty amount is small."

So there you have it. Measurement approaches from the small and mighty. Inches and ounces leave much to be desired --who needs to be counting all the time, anyway?

Minty chocolate soymilk? I drink lots of soymilk, but I've never heard of this particular variety. Your own invention perhaps?

CG remembers that last year in the winter, we sometimes stirred hot cocoa with candy canes, thus making our own minty milk. She is very taken with the fact that this minty milk comes in a box. It's by Vitasoy, and I think I bought it last December for our winter party, and it's been in the fridge ever since (nearing, but not yet arrived at, its expiry date). I don't see it listed on the Vitasoy website right now so I wonder if it was a holiday flavor? At the moment I'm regretting I have only one box, but my pantry has been full of various beverages or foods I've bought in quantity after CG's initial enthusiasm, only to find that she wouldn't eat more of it after all. So perhaps a cat-sized portion of the minty milk is best for now.

Well, to the cats don't drink much at all line, I'd like to introduce her to my recently departed 27 pound cat...

I should keep an eye out for that for John, who loves the combination of minty and chocolate.
